What are fluency grids?

The fluency grids are an activity organized according to phonics skills. Each grid has 7 words in a row. The words are repeated and mixed up for subsequent rows. Students read each row, seeing if they can become more and more fluent after each row.

Some of our students can take HUNDREDS of exposures before they orthographically map words for immediate, automatic retrieval.  These fluency grids give your students the exposure and practice they need to become more fluent readers.
